Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water

In adulthood, the human body contains between 50 and 65 percent water. Therefore, wouldn’t it make sense to replenish what our body naturally requires?

How does water help the body? Just to name a few, water protects our organs, flushes toxins from the body, helps dissolves the nutrients we ingest, helps to regulate the body’s temperature levels, and carries oxygen to the brain and throughout the whole body. Water is life and life is water, so it is definitely not worth underestimating the drinking regime.

How much should we drink to make any type of difference? The common advice from the Mayo Clinic is the 8 glasses a day goal. Drinking more water as a regular fluid intake rather than sugar and calories is always a better choice.

What are the benefits of drinking more water than we normally do? Water does not need to be sparkling or fancy, just drink good ole plain water. Why you should drink more water features several advantages that you can physically see. Here are some benefits:

Weight Loss

Oprah and her affiliation with the weight loss program have scientific evidence that water helps you lose weight. Are you really going to dispute Oprah? It has been proven that drinking a couple of glasses of water at least 1.5 or 2 hours before a meal will help lessen the amount of food you eat.

Also, substituting water as your drink of choice, even while you are dining or after you dine helps your food to digest easier through the GI tract. Also, water helps to make you feel satiated. Drinking water will not be an instant panacea for losing inches and pounds.

We know that water does not contain any calories. It helps you to burn calories because water expends energy or calories. Water flushes out your body’s wastes by keeping your kidneys operating efficiently and it helps burn calories.

Better Skin

Water helps to keep your skin looking luminous. When you increase your water intake, it makes its way to your epidermis to help moisturize your outward skin appearance. This means that water hydrates the inner body and the outer body.

Adding more water to your daily fluid intake helps to smooth out the lines in your skin. Scientists admit that they are not sure how or why water does all it does, but the results have shown that drinking more water decreases the signs of ageing skin wrinkles.

Another advantage of drinking water daily is something we have already mentioned, but that bears repeating. Water gets rid of toxins in the body which means that your pores are healthier. Even the pores on the outer skin keep acne and pimples from popping up. The more hydrated your skin is, the more your pores can naturally breathe and be free from clogging up with dead cells and dirt.

Water regulates blood pressure

Water keeps the body regulated and the blood system flowing smoothly. This means that your body is not stressed, meaning that your brain functions better and your heart is pumping with regularity. When the cells in the body don’t have enough water, chemicals are released that cause stress or high blood pressure symptoms.

In other words, increasing your water intake within the body keeps your body hydrated and your blood vessels and cells from constricting. Keeping the right amount of water in the body as is its natural function, keeps your blood pressure level normal.

An alternative of drinking water, for quick rehydration, is IV fluids. These fluids are administered directly into your veins, delivering hydration and essential nutrients directly to your body. They can help replenish fluids more rapidly than drinking water alone. Explore IV fluids and their benefits here.

Losing water through sweating, perspiration, etc. can cause your body to become dehydrated without your knowledge. Dehydration causes a low blood rate. Thus, your blood pressure drops and you ask yourself why do I feel a little faint, especially your body has been through some form of exercise.

Water for Insomnia

This is a surprising benefit to drink water each day, especially before we go to bed. If your body is not hydrated enough, you will have a restless night due to leg cramps. Water keeps your legs from cramping up. Also, you may snore more than what is normal.

Your nasal passages need to stay moist or else when you lie down you will be subject to serious snoring issues. Have you ever awakened with a desire for water in the middle of the night? Now you know why you did not drink enough water. Also, when we do not drink enough H2O, our brain can go into brain fog mode. This means that when we wake up, we are not as alert as we should be and our energy level is low.

How much water should I drink per day?

It is generally recommended to use 2 to 2.5 liters of water per day per adult. However, since each and every one of us is different, the amount of water varies.

There is a simple equation to help us figure out how much water we should drink. It is said that for every 15 kilograms of body weight, we should drink 0.5 liters of water. So if you weigh 80 kg, you should drink 2.6 liters of water (see the equation below.)

80 (kg) : 15 (kg) = 5.3 | 5.3 x 0.5 = 2.6 liters
